Cut Flower Care

Whether you have just received a stunning floral bouquet as a gift, or treated yourself to a beautiful bunch of cut flowers, you will want to make sure they are properly cared for to get the most from your blooms. By following our 6 simple steps, you can ensure your bouquet lasts!

What to do once you have brought your flowers home:

  1. Clean your vase with hot, soapy water to prevent any bacterial build up
  2. Fill your vase half way with cold tap water
  3. Add in one sachet of flower food and mix well
  4. Using sharp scissors or secateurs, cut two to three centimetres off the bottom of the stem at a 45-degree angle
  5. Carefully remove any leaves from the stems, that will fall under the water line, as this can cause bacteria to grow
  6. Place your flowers into the vase and repeat the process of changing the water and trimming the stems every two or three days

To give your flowers an extra helping hand, make sure they are placed in an area that stays cool. We suggest keeping your flowers away from heat sources, such as near radiators or in direct sunlight, as this can cause your flowers to wilt. For hydrangeas, we recommend spraying the flower heads with water to keep them fresh and looking their best. Flowers with woody stems, such as roses, will often take in water faster than others. Make sure you keep a close eye on the water level as it may need topping up throughout the day.
